Amelia bacon

CO-FOUNDER, BOARD MEMBER

Amelia Bacon is the co-founder of Stand Up Mobile where she has successfully advocated for fair maps and the redrawing of congressional districts in Alabama and the Black Belt; enabled over sixty community members to speak before City Council on redistricting and annexation; conducted and partnered on countless voter engagement and registration events across Mobile County; and worked to develop an online presence for the organization to overcome the City's "Media Desert."

Amelia has over 30 years of professional experience having served 34 years at US Airways in several roles including Station Director, where she negotiated contracts to manage two additional airlines while simultaneously managing US Airways for operational performance in southeastern region for the period of 2000-2005.

 

Amelia is a dedicated servant to her community. In addition to Stand Up Mobile, Amelia's involvement includes the Boys and Girls Club for the State of Alabama (Board Chair, Board of Directors, 2014-2016), Gulf Coast Classic (Director, 2009), Bush-Clinton Initiative (Site Evaluator, 2006-2007), and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) (Disaster Assistance Planner, 2006).

Amelia is a graduate of Southern University where she earned her B.S. in English and Speech Communications, and Indiana State University where she earned her M.S. in Agency Counseling and Behavioral Sciences. She is also the recipient of several awards including the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Nzinga Award (1991),  United Negro College Fund Sponsor & Committee Member Fundraising Award (1993, 1994), Corporate Community Citizen of the Year, Bishop State Community College (1995), and Franklin Clinic Fundraising Sponsor and Committee Member Fundraising Award (1995, 1996, 2001, 2004).
