OUR MISSION

We're committed to bringing the power of the Black vote to every election.

Stand Up Mobile is committed to bringing the power of the Black vote to elections at all levels. We believe that it is important that all people have their voices heard, especially those that are too often excluded from the political, economic, and social institutions that shape their lives.

OUR STORY

Stand Up Mobile is a non-profit, non-partisan voter education and advocacy organization based in Mobile, AL. Its founding in January 2021 was the result of conversations between friends Amelia Bacon and Beverly Cooper after witnessing reports of an insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Amelia’s and Beverly’s discussions included the need to safeguard democracy by increasing voter education, voter empowerment, and as a result, voter turnout. Voting is a tool that allows citizens to make their voices heard, and to elect representatives who share their values and advocate for their communities. Addressing issues such as housing, employment, education, health, and safety, starts on a local level––just as voting does.

At the founding of Stand Up Mobile, Amelia and Beverly note that their community was primed and ready for change––they just needed the information and tools necessary to exercise the power of their vote. The result of a healthy democracy and empowered community is a blueprint that works for all of us, not just a select few.

"We’re educating the community, getting the word out and getting into as many places as we can to talk about voting and why we must show up at the polls on Election Day."

Beverly Cooper

"We care about our communities.
To see change, we’ve got to be the change."

Amelia Bacon
